Aztec, NM (June 3, 2008)-Each step up the racing ladder is an adventure for a young racer. After successful starts in the late model division driving for Spraker Racing Enterprises, Alex was promoted to the NASCAR Camping World East Series last weekend at South Boston Speedway. This was a brand new world for the sixteen year old out of Aztec, NM. Without time to test in the car, the only laps he would get to turn were in the two forty-five minute practice sessions. Final practice sent notice that Alex Kennedy is ready to compete at this elite level. Fifth quick in practice in a field that included proven drivers such as Steve Park, Matt Kobyluck, and Bryan Chew and young talent such as Austin Dillon, Trevor Bayne, and Peyton Sellers caught the attention of everyone at South Boston. Qualifying 19th in a field of thirty-two cars taking time, Alex qualified on time for his first NASCAR start. Unfortunately his evening came to an early end after a double-file restart, one of fifteen cautions in this crash filled event. Alex was working underneath NASCAR Winston Cup star Steve Park when an accident took place ahead on the track. Without a hole available on the tight racetrack Alex got into the car in front of him putting a hole in his radiator and ending his night early. “I want to thank Mr. Spraker and the crew, this car was so much fun to drive,” said Alex after the race. “This wasn’t the result we wanted but I learned a lot tonight.” Alex was interviewed twice by SPEED Channel during the weekend. Tune in at Noon ET on June 20th on SPEED TV to catch all the exciting action. Alex Kennedy and Spraker Racing Enterprises are looking for the funding to compete full time in the NASCAR Camping World East Series next year. Sponsors can join us in Victory Lane as Alex continues his “Drive for Dreams.”
In 2006 Alex Kennedy was featured on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” show interviewed by Mike Massaro for a special about young drivers. “I can’t drive to Sonic to get a cheeseburger but I can drive a racecar,” said Alex. Since that interview Alex has been named National Ambassador for Dream Factory Inc and became the youngest driver to post a podium finish in ASALMS history. Nicknamed the “New Mexico Rising Star” back at his home track of Sandia Motorsports Park, Alex has been signed by Spraker Racing Enterprises to their driver development program.
Sixteen-year-old driver Alex Kennedy has a dream to race in NASCAR. As he pursues his dream, Alex wants to make dreams come true for kids involved with Dream Factory Inc. Through his racing Alex will raise awareness of the Dream Factory Inc organization while also raising needed funds for chapters all over the United States. “I feel so proud to represent Dream Factory Inc and bring racing to these kids that don’t get to do the fun stuff I get to do,” said Alex Kennedy. Twelve-year-old Joey Lindsey from the Central Missouri Chapter is Alex’s number one fan!
